Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 97 === Due to the fact that many composers are not familiar with instrumentation and compose music all by personal impressions and the roles of different wind instruments, the development of delicate wind instrument music is limited. A wind band consists of various wind and percussion instruments, out of stringed ones. Moreover, the wind band, which is no different from the orchestra, shares the same wide compass and a tone quality of a large variety. Thus, it also possesses the capability of performing all kinds of music. In general, an orchestra only adopts a small group of wind instruments, which is only a way for the consideration of tone, volume and acoustics. The wind band, however, adopts a large orchestration. Through this kind of ensemble, the tone, volume and acoustics are of no doubt more powerful, splendid, and flourishing. A certain kind of independence and artistry is profoundly confirmed by the orchestration of a wind band. It is highly valuable in cultural education, and its ensemble produces various music styles owing to different instrumentations. The establishment of a wind band is both artistically inspiring and educative. The main purpose of this study is:
1. to identify the classification and differences of wind instruments;
2. to compare the differences between European and American wind band instrumentation;
3. to analyze the differences of the music styles due to the various instrumentation and arrangement.
