A good urban commercial plaza could attract stream of people, create vivid and vital interaction, improve business profits, and provide a nice environment for people to do activities and relax. In the development of the urban commercial center, the affiliated plaza could not only be the visual focus of the commercial architecture, but also improves the living standard and space quality, and even the business of whole plaza. In accordance with the proposal by Tsai, Shu-Yin in 1982 about the characteristic of urban commercial plaza pointed out, “The main purpose of a commercial plaza is to draw people’s attention and keep them stay. In order to avoid dullness, the plaza shall provide varied activities, enough infrastructures, attractive focus, and defined boundaries.” Vieshow cinemas center, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi plaza, and New York New York Shopping Center outdoor plaza in Hsin-Yi district are qualified after the research. The motive of this research is to study how to build up a good commercial plaza. This research adopted the method of questionnaires from Vieshow cinemas center, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi plaza, and New York New York Shopping Center outdoor plaza in Hsin-Yi district. We analyzed how well are they being used. Do different space designs really cause different effects? This research is probed in the viewpoint of post-occupancy evaluation and environmental behavior. The empirical research and cross analysis of space characteristics make us understand what a successful commercial space is, and even provides examples about relevant design studies for reference in the future.
