碩士 === 僑光技術學院 === 工程科技研究所 === 97 === Many maples have bright autumn foliage and many countries have leaf-watching traditions. In Taiwan, the custom of viewing the changing colour of maples in the autumn is called “ Maple leaf- watching” Taiwanese particularly favoured destinations for this activity. In addition, at Huisun Forest Area (altitude: 700 m), the same viewing activity at a hill near Civilian Hotel Area is very famous place for it. Obviously the color change of maple leaves from Dec 2008 to Jan 2009 is 7.5R 3/8 to 4/12 in terms of Munsell color. In other words, color of maple leaves turning is approaching bright red while the atmosphere becomes lower in humidity and temperature (ca R.H% 75% and 10-15 0C). We deduce that the color change of maple leaves in winter was greatly affected by temperature, humidity and sunlight exposure. Some tourists like to watch the color of red fallen maple leaves for pleasures. Interestingly, the color changing of fallen red maple leaves with time lapsed is reducing its value and chroma with the loss of carotene, cyanine and water. The particularly spectacular winter colours of red Maple are a major contributor to the seasonal landscape at Huisun Forest Area which is a boon to the tourists. It is the spectacular winter colours of maple leaves that draw tourists and photographers at Huisun Forest Area. Obviously, red maple leaves attract the tourists for red ones are the complementary color to abundant green background/forest in Huisun forest.
