However, most of the companies in Taiwan belong to a middle or small size business which limits to capital and human resource in some sense. Those companies have to adjust and develop their optimum product developing procedure to meet different design targets and contents. As a designer who conducts the task under the great time pressure and limited resource, one has to clarify the requirement and target of new project first. Only when he/she has this contemplation in mind, the designer can spend his or her precious time on correct items in the design project efficiently and thus fulfill the project requirement promptly. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of designing procedure, the role of designer on new project, and the skills that the designer needs for various types of new projects. Besides, this study also attempts to study which steps will be erased from standard product designing procedure to help designer improve their efficiency in task. First, within the same companies we find some interesting results between various types of design projects as follows. 1. In different types of projects, designer will skip parts of procedure according to the work content. And the difference among them varies with different workload, available resource, expected result, and leadership in one project. 2. In real business, the difference of various new product developing projects exists not only in planning and production ramp-up stage, but also may cause to omit parts of the designing steps. For example, developing concept step may be skipped out totally. 3. In fundamentally new products, designer tends to be interrupted or will repeat design work for technical problems. Second, among different companies we also find there are differences in procedure between similar types of design projects. Those different points are listed as below: 1. Between companies, the task content of designer in the new product developing procedure will be various due to different product category and department organization. 2. Design procedure will reveal the extent of importance of industrial design in a company. 3.
