Since the load of a CCFL inverter is composed of lamps, the characteristics of these lamps must be studied first in detail. Then the equivalent circuit model of the CCFL is developed based on the mechanical dimensions of the backlight module. From the developed CCFL model and the concept of impedance, the MathCAD software tool can be adopted to calculate the required inductance of the current balance circuit and the resonant capacitance. The parameters of the transformer, such as turns ratio and secondary leakage inductance are obtained. Finally, a CCFL inverter prototype driving up to 16 lamps is implemented and tested.
