This study found, merger or acquisition is not the main cause of the career crisis of banking industry employees. It is the changing and competitive business environment that leads to the career uncertainty and insecurity. Employees can only reach the success of career transition by adjusting their mind and re-position their career life.
According to the interviews, four types of career transitions for those who are layoff after mergers were found in this study. They are stability first, career with limited barriers, self-employed, and dream fulfillment. The study also suggests revisiting Holland’s career types as the job contents may vary from those originally defined. The same job may fit different types of person now.
