Generally, there are three warehouse policies decisions that determine the efficiency of order picking, picking routing, order batching and storage assignment. Previous research has focused on either picking routing or order batching, but this thesis attempts to balance the workload among all pickers based on storage assignment in the system so that the efficiency of order picking is improved and to reduce the order picking time in the order picking system. This is the main objective of this research. This research consider the similarity relationship of items among all order, this thesis develops a storage assignment policy of heuristic to assigned the items to proper position, and use simulation experiment to find the result of order picking time in a synchronized zone order picking system and compare with previous literature.
