Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 98 === Hector Berlioz (1803-69) was a French romantic composer, best known for his composition like “Fantastic symphony” (1830) and “Requiem” (1837). Besides the orchestral music, choral works and operas, Berlioz wrote about 50 mélodies, they show the noticeable influence of French mélodie, considered his best is his song cycle “Les nuits d’ été”, it is a setting of six poems by Théophile Gautier (1811-72).
In order to understand the characteristic of Berlioz’s vocal works, this essay will be the focus on Berlioz’s song cycle “Les nuits d’ éte”, research will include the biography of Hector Berlioz and Théophile Gautier, the poetry itself and the musical analysis.
