碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 資訊管理組 === 97 === This Thesis shows the steps taken to implement a VMware based virtual infrastructure in a testing lab for a large software development company in Taiwan. In order to successfully deploy the virtual infrastructure, this Thesis analyzes the assessments of adopting the virtualization and planning of deployment. The benefits and trade-offs are described to ensure adopters of virtualization technologies to plan for benefits and downsides. The deployment scopes VMware Infrastructure 3 solutions (VI3). This Thesis covers the features of VI3. The previous configuration of the lab is based on x86 rack mount physical machines. This Thesis shows how to implement a virtual infrastructure based on VMware ESX and LabManager. Besides configuration of virtual infrastructure, this Thesis also focuses on some remarkable issues found during the implementation and the impacts of using a virtual infrastructure from different points of views are addressed. The economical performance and ROI shows where it is justified to purchase expensive software and hardware to implement a virtual infrastructure. The key successful factors of adopting virtual infrastructure are also discussed.
