In order to successfully deploy the virtual infrastructure, this Thesis analyzes the assessments of adopting the virtualization and planning of deployment. The benefits and trade-offs are described to ensure adopters of virtualization technologies to plan for benefits and downsides.
The deployment scopes VMware Infrastructure 3 solutions (VI3). This Thesis covers the features of VI3. The previous configuration of the lab is based on x86 rack mount physical machines. This Thesis shows how to implement a virtual infrastructure based on VMware ESX and LabManager. Besides configuration of virtual infrastructure, this Thesis also focuses on some remarkable issues found during the implementation and the impacts of using a virtual infrastructure from different points of views are addressed.
The economical performance and ROI shows where it is justified to purchase expensive software and hardware to implement a virtual infrastructure. The key successful factors of adopting virtual infrastructure are also discussed.
