The Study of New Immigrant Families’ Elementary School Children’s Problem Solving Ability and Life Adjustment in Taitung County

碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育學系(所) === 97 === Abstract The main purpose of this study was to understand the situations of the immigrant families’ elementary school children’s problem solving ability and life adjustment in Taitung county. This study used the questionnaire survey method, and chose 188 of the new immigrant families’ children who studied in fifth and sixth grades in 2008 as subjectives. The instruments used in the study include Test of Problem Solving (TOPS) and Elementary Students Life Adjustment Test. There were 133 valid questionaires received. After the analysis of SPSS, Descriptive-Statistics (mean, standard, deviation), T-test and Pearson Product-moment Correlation were used to explain the current situation, compare different variables, and investigate the correlation between the problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county. The finding and conclusions are illustrated as follow: 1.On the whole, the degree of problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county is above the average. 2.The difference between problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county in different grades is not apparent. 3.The difference between problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county in different sexes is not apparent. 4.The difference between problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county in different school district is not apparent. 5.Problem solving ability and life adjustment of new immigrant families’ children in Taitung county have correlation. 6.Of all the items from Life Adjustment Test of new immigrant families’ children, the correlation between the items (affinity, social skills, adjustment of study and game-playing, life goals, behavior maturity, and adjustability) and problem solving ability is apparent. According to the results of the research, I give suggestions for administration of education, educators about elementary schools and the parents of new immigrant families.
