Chapter one, the introduction, , starts with three sections. The first section of chapter one depicts the research background and purpose. The second section in chapter one introduces the present relevant studies and establishes the niche. The third section reviews literature and develops research method for this study. This study adopted document analysis as the research method and depicted the relationship between governmental documentary and a library. Chapter two introduces Chien by the anecdotes and the writing atmosphere during Ming-Ching. There are four sections in chapter two. The first section details Chien’s background information and his political career. The second section describes Chien’s personal stance again Chinese Neoclassicism. The third section reports Chien’s marriage and he himself as an elder. The fourth section is mainly about why Chien surrendered himself to Chin dynasty and the later evaluation toward him. Chapter three is about what influence Emperor Chien-lung’s ban on Chien’s works has on Chien. There are four sections in chapter three. The first section depicts Emperor Chien-Lung’s emphasis on literature. The second section reports the emperor collected all the books so as to facilitate the ban on Chien’s works. The third section explores Chien’s role in Er Chien Jwan, in which he was viewed as a betrayer. The fourth inspects the national fortune and academic achievement in Ching dynasty from the book Ching-shih kao. Chapter four is about the anthology of Chien’s works banned and the version present nowadays. There are three sections in chapter four. The first outlines Chien’s works. The second compares two denoting version: the Ch'u hsueh-chi and you-hsueh chi in Su-pu ts'ung-k'an and another version of Ch'u hsueh-chi and you-hsueh chi denoted by Ch'ien chung-lien. The second section portraits the Chien’s banned books. Chapter five is about private collection of ancient volumes and the activity of printing books. The third section identifies Chien’s contribution to preserving document and sustaining Chinese culture. Chapter seven concludes the study. Through the investigation of this study, this chapter elaborates the investigation of Chien to the popularity of private volume collection in Ming-Ching. Further more, this study provides the background information behind Chin’s collection of books and the policy of banning specific volumes.
