For most of the organized crime, gambling Industry and sex Industry, as well as dealing with debts, illicit drug dealing, are the most important economic activities for them. However, after the announcement of “Regulation of Urban-renewal in Taipei Area”, the benefit behind that regulation has cast their greedy eyes. Whilst the categories of the organized crime’s economic activities are transiting from the tradition activities into this new area, little criminological research has focused on this issue. This research is targeting on: 1. understanding how organized crime are developed and distributed in Taipei; 2. understanding the economic activities of the organized crime in Taipei; 3. analyzing how organized crime can involve in the renewal of urban area; 4. giving suggestions to the law enforcements on investigating this issue. Through in-depth interview with a CEO in the land-developing industry and two organized crime leaders, this research discovered: 1. economic activities of some organized crime has transmitted from traditional activities to earning benefit by involving in the renewal of urban area in Taipei; 2. the modus operandi that organized crime get involve into the renewal of urban area include threatening, interfering, persuading, two-sides strategy, bribing, and waiting for timing. 3. there should be more discussion on the topic if it should be strictly prohibited whether the involvement of the organized crime into the urban renewal benefit to most of people. Of course, the first priority will be the compliance to laws and regulations. This research suggests that: 1. laws and regulations need to be amended, in order to keep the pace with the change of the society; 2. there should be more professional education to the police; 3. educating the citizen how to protect their own rights and let them know the channel where they can seek for help.
