The travel cost method was then employed to assess the total economic benefits of such tourist activities. Findings are aimed to provide a reference for the future enhancement of the quality of holiday tours. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The Yehliu Geopark boasts of three major geographic terrain and eight minor terrain types, providing the area a wealth of geographic panoramas to explore. Park visitors may enjoy watching over eighty species of birds and a wide variety of coastal life. Moreover, the place contains a unique cultural atmosphere that boosts its attractions to tour planners. 2. Majority of the questionnaire respondents were female tourists, ages ranging between 21 to 30 years, and majority of which are either college or junior college graduates and single. Students and government service personnel compose the highest percentage of the respondents, and majority of which reside in the Taipei and Keelung areas. 3. The average frequency at which each questionnaire respondent visits the Geopark this year is 1.5 times, and a great majority of the tourists came with friends for a holiday vacation. Most of them traveled by private car, and the past touring experiences of friends and relatives as well as information obtained from the Internet were the principal factors affecting the traveling choices of tourists. Average duration of stay in the park is around three hours, and the average transportation expenses of tourists is NT$ 478.75. 4. The degree of enthusiasm of tourist prior to arrival at the park and the degree of satisfaction after they have visited the park may be mainly described as “a spot away from the noise of the city where one could enjoy a peaceful and quiet natural environment” and “helps relaxes the mind and releases one from the pressures of work”. 5. Questionnaire respondents manifested a high degree of overall satisfaction and inclination to return to the Yehliu Geopark, as well as a very high degree of awareness for geographical scenic site conservation. Moreover, respondents held quite high expectations on the planning and development of ecological tours and ecological parks. 6. Through the travel cost method, the study assessed the annual recreational benefits of the Yehliu Geopark at NT$ 4,745 per person. The overall economic benefits is assessed at NT$3,935 million, making quite apparent the enormous economic benefits of Yehliu Geopark. 7. The following recommendations are suggested for the geographical scenic site conservation and tourism development strategies of the Yehliu Geopark: A. cultivation of a humans resource for park operations and management; B. enhancement of environmental facilities and facility management; C. improvement of the food, beverage, and vendor operating strategies; D. promotion of geographical scenic site conservation ideas; E. tourist quantity control, F. planning and development of ecological tours and ecological parks, G. opening of local employment opportunities, and H. consolidation of tour and travel planning matters. Key words: Yehliu Geopark, recreational behavior, travel cost method, recreational benefit. Ching-Hsiewn Ou 歐慶賢 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 117 zh-TW
