The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss the Power Line Carrier (PLC) for the layout application of AMR. PLC puts digital data on the ac power line to carry out the signal transmission. Power companies have the highest coverage of low-voltage power line network. The use of this feature can speed up the deployment of AMR. Both commercially available electronic meters and several program modules developed in this thesis are used to construct an AMR test system for exploring the application of PLC for AMR layout. In addition, massive meter data are created from a personal computer to test the transmission capacity and the transmission time of the PLC in order to verify the stability of the communication quality of AMR.
