The information of typhoon is from University of Hawaii and the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan、and the SST data is from the TRMM satellite Microwave Imager (TMI). The results show that typhoon can induce upper ocean cooling in the northwestern Pacific with about 1–4oC. Meanwhile、the maximum cooling always occurs in one or two days of the typhoon arrival. After the departure of the typhoon、the sea surface cooling can even last more than 10 days. The stronger typhoon will cause more obvious sea surface cooling with the larger percentage of lasting cooling more than 10 days. The results also show the seasonal difference of the typhoon-induced upper ocean cooling in the northwestern Pacific. The maximum SST drop is mainly 0oC-2oC in April and May、1oC-4oC in July and August、and possibly up to 7.2oC in November. It is also found that the typhoon-induced cooling can be more obvious in the sea with higher latitude. Nan-Jung Kuo 郭南榮 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 69 zh-TW
