The pollution assessment of the water quality in the Keelung Harbour

碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 海洋環境資訊學系 === 97 === The Keelung Harbor is an important commercial harbor in Northern Taiwan and is located in the city centre of Keelung . The domestic and industrial effluents of the Keelung through the major rivers discharge into the Keelung Harbor , inducing the water quality seriously polluted. The present study investigated the water quality of the main channel of the Keelung Harbor from July 2008 to February 2009. The survey results of water quality of the Keelung Harbor were in the range: pH, 7.54-8.24; dissolved oxygen, 0.70-8.24 mg/l; dissolved phosphate, 0.01 -9.07 �嵱; silicate, 1.15-129.23μM; nitrite, 0.31-9.70μM; nitrate, 0.37-24.51μM; and chlorophyll a, 0.21-4.87 μg/l. The higher concentrations of nutrients and lower concentrations of dissolved oxygen were found within 1 km of the south bank in the harbor. The water quality in this area does not follow the “B level” seawater standard of EPA regulation. The spatial distributions of nutrients concentration in the Keelung Harbor showed significant decrease with seaward, while dissolved oxygen exhibited the opposite distribution. The untreated domestic effluents are probably the pollution source of the Keelung Harbor . Due to the poor mixing of the domestic effluents with seawater, the influence of these discharges is generally restricted 1 km distance inside the harbor.
