To decrease the chloride ion contents or removal them thus is one strategy to prevent corrosion of RC structures. In this study, we study the electrical chloride removal of RC members (with multiple layers of rebars and stirrups). Using different setups for electrodes and study the efficiencies for these setups. The results show that the middle region confined by the stirrups is very difficult to remove chloride in comparison with the single-rebar case. For single rebar case, the chloride is easy to be removed. However, if stirrups exist the equal potential for connected rebars and stirrups make chloride in the middle region is not easy to be removed. To add an extra cathode or change the cathode location after a period can help the removal of chloride more completely. On the anodic side of concrete, deposit of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is observed. Since the electrolyte used in 0.1 N NaOH, it implies that the deposit comes from the calcium ions inside concrete leaches out. If such leaching out phenomenon is very serious, it is expected the pore structures of concrete may become looser and compressive strength may become lower.
