Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 水產養殖學系 === 97 === Two experiments were conducted to find out the effects of dietary astaxanthin on chromatophores of adult Atydae shrimp (Neocaridina denticulata) and on resistance of its offspring to ultraviolet illumination: I. Effect of dietary astaxanthin on growth, survival, pigmentation, and number of gravid females and offspring of red (R) or pale (P) shrimp. II. Effect of UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C and dietary astaxanthin on survival and chromatophores of offspring fry from prior experiment. Dietary astaxanthin and body color had no effect on growth and survival. Dietary astaxanthin did not affect the number of gravid females but increased offspring number. Red shrimps had higher number of gravid females and offspring than pale ones. For both body color shrimps, dietary astaxanthin improved pigmentation, showing favorable changes in chromatic and morphological parameters of chromatophores. Dietary astaxanthin and red body color delayed the first and total mortality time when shrimps exposed to UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C radiation. The offspring of mother shrimp received dietary astaxanthin and of red body color had more favorable response in chromatic and morphological parameters of chromatophores than the offspring of mother shrimp received no dietary astaxanthin and of pale body color when under UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C radiation. This study demonstrated body color genetics and dietary astaxanthin improved not only chromatic and morphological parameters of chromatophores of shrimp of both present and next generation but also the resistance of offspring to ultraviolet radiation stress.
