This discussion shall extract elements of creativity from the cultural relics housed in the National Palace Museum. By use of digital design, Chinese traditional paintings can be simplified to create decorative images, which can be then applied to everyday items. This enables the integration between culture and industry. By bringing Chinese traditional artworks into daily life, they can be more readily promoted to the international community.
The main topic of this discussion is graphic design. By reviewing documentations, principles behind graphic design composition shall be analyzed. In order to study their expression, "decorative art images" shall be categorized by their media of creation and content. Works of Giuseppe Castiglione shall be analyzed with regards to the variety and characteristics of the paintings' image elements. Example of an actual creation will be shown by applying the method of expression and principles of composition as described in the documentations, while utilizing Castiglione's image elements as the basis. This discussion categorizes the visual simplification methods of image into three categories: planarizing, visualizing, and geometrizing. Forms of decorative compositions include: (1) enhancement, gradiation, splitting and reordering of a single image and, (2) integration and effect-strengthening of multiple images. Utilizing the aesthetic principle of various compositions to approach different ways of maximizing an image's role in decoration. This way an image can be reused to become a decorative image.
Works shall be created by summarzing the discussion result. Through representation of production process with diagrams and descriptions, this discussion will communicate the creative concept, process, and results, and illustrate the possibility for follow-up research.
