Up to now, about 40 Chinese versions have been published during the fifty years in Taiwan. As the development of society and the emergence of diverse demands, Animal Farm has gradually not only been translated as a political satire for adult readers, but also as a fairy tale for children readers and as English-learning material for learners. This thesis is to analyze the six Chinese versions of Animal Farm for children, taking the five aspects that Zohar Shavit proposes when reviewing translation of children’s literature as the analytical categories. The five aspects are affiliation to existing models, the text’s integrality, the level of complexity of the text, ideological or evaluative adaptation, and the stylistic norms. What kind of translation and adaptation strategies do the six versions take? How does the allegorical message of the work appear in the six versions for children? What are the intended functions and effects of these versions? Do they differ from or accord with the functions and effects of the original work? The questions above are what this thesis intends to answer. Ken-fang Lee 李根芳 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 86 zh-TW
