A Descriptive Study of 6th Graders’ Test Results of Aquatic Safety Knowledge at Elementary School in Tainan Area

碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 體育學系教學碩士班 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to understand 6th graders’ test results of aquatic safety knowledge and to investigate whether demography differentiates in the test results. The research methods included a questionnaire approach via stratified random sampling. The subjects of 6th graders were recruited at elementary schools from both Tainan county and city. There were 1212 valid copies in this study. The findings are listed as follows. I. The overall test result of aquatic safety knowledge was not quite satisfactory. Usually, 6th graders gain low scores in the Aquatic Environment Consciousness and Recognition of Aquatic Safety Regulations. They have better safety knowledge in swimming pools than in other aquatic activities. II. Significant differences of 6th graders’ test results were found in some invariables, such as gender, selected textbooks, swimming abilities, socioeconomic status and school size. III. There are three factors in the questionnaire: Aquatic Environment Consciousness, Recognition of Aquatic Safety Regulations and Danger-realization Abilities. These factors are positively correlated with the whole instrument and the differences reach significant level. Finally, this author made a follow-up discussion and provided some teaching tips on aquatic safety at elementary schools, as well as suggestions for the future research.
