Traditionally, the making of a shoe last for a new shoe design was a tedious process. The shoe lastmaker was used to modify an existing shoe last model by taking a series of 1-D foot measurements in flat position to estimate the 3-D foot form and its measurements in high heel-raise position repetitively. This can be attributed to the fact that 3-D foot form measurement technique was not available in the past, and can be implemented by the 3D foot scanning technology nowadays. The purpose of this study is to collect 3-D foot forms at various heel heights and extract the measurements to analyze their variations. A 3-D foot scanner was used. 135 males and 135 females were recruited and paid for participation. For each subject, 4 scans of the right foot at 0-, 3-, 6- and 9-cm heel heights were taken. For each scan, 6 landmarks were identified and then 10 1-D measurements were extracted semi-automatically by Anthro3D software. In data analysis, foot form in 0-cm heel height is taking as the normalization factor, and measurements in 3-, 6- and 9-cm heel heights are then normalized to analysis their variations. Regression models are also analyzed. A 3D foot database with 270 people is established in results as well as their 10 1-D measurements extracted. After normalization, the regression models to the variation of the measurements under 4 different heel heights are also analyzed. The R2s of these models are all about 0.7. The results are useful for the shoe lastmaker in estimating the measurements changed in heel-raised position and for the validation to the dynamic foot models.
