Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 早期療育研究所 === 97 === The purpose of this study is to understand the disadvantage family pre-school children those who living in the area of Banciao、Jhonghe and Tucheng at Taipei County, after receiving 「Head Start Program」 (home visiting and theme activity), the outcomes of literacy, intellect and general ability showed significant changed. 10 of the disadvantage family pre-school children were chosen after a purposeful sampling process, and the program lasting 7 months. This study was conducted via Quasi-Experimental Designs including one-group pre and post testing. It measured children’s developmental outcomes using Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R), Test of Nonverbal Intelligence-Third Edition( TONI-3), and Chinese Child Development Inventory (CCDI). Finally, we presented our data by using descriptive statistics, paired samples t-test and Kendall’s coefficient of rank correlation. All calculations were performed with spss 13.0 for windows. And the others interview data were collected form parent/major caregiver. The results of this study and finding were as follows: 1. Had Start Program can promote disadvantage family pre-school children’s literacy development have positive outcomes. 2. Head Start Program can promote disadvantage family pre-school children’s intellect development and show positive outcomes. 3. Head Start Program can promote disadvantage family pre-school children’s general ability development and show positive outcomes. 4. From the interview and observation of parents/major caregiver, children have a great progress in social relationship and peer interaction. The results of this study show that Head Start Program can promote disadvantage family children’s performance on literacy, intellect and general ability. In the long run, the results of the study can be provided as reference for parents, governmental or folk organizations as well as following researchers.
