The questionnaire survey method was employed in this study. Nine hundred and thirty four fifth- and sixth- graders were randomly selected from 22 classes among elementary schools in Taichung County and Taichung City. The Parenting Style Scale and Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire were adopted. The results were presented by descriptive statistics and analyzed by two-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation, and z-test. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The parenting styles by enlightening and with respect was the most obvious in the singletons’ parents’ population. 2. The prosocial behaviors of the singletons were close to positive degree as a whole. 3. The parenting styles received by the non-singletons were perceived to be stricter and more despotic than those of the singletons. 4. The singletons showed more rescuing behaviors, more co-operational behaviors, and more prosocial behaviors in all than the non-singletons. 5. The negligent and the tolerant but loose parenting style were both negatively correlated with the co-operational behaviors in the singletons. On the other hand, the enlightening and respectful parenting style was positively correlated with the overall prosocial behavior in the singletons. 6. The corelations of how children regard the parenting styles they received and the presented prosocial behaviors in the singletons were not significantly different from the non-singletons.
