Through the case study of Jia-Jia Elementary School, it addresses the problems encountered with parental involvement and the solutions, as well as its impact and the opinions of teachers and parents regarding parental involvement. The findings are as follows: I. Current Parental Involvement Situation in Jia-Jia Elementary School: Parental involvement exists in various forms, ranging from morning activity support, teaching assistance, to assistance in school events. Study found that parental involvement is highest in field trips, and parents with offspring in grades one and two tend to be more involved in school activities. II. Influencing Factors of Parental Involvement and Solutions: 1. Government policy, opinions from teachers, and expectations from parents can all influence the school administration’s stand on parental involvement. Teacher’s attitude regarding parental involvement depends on school events and the attitude from the administration. Rapport between teacher and parents, teacher’s characteristics, and time are influencing factors for both teachers and parents. Personality, social status and income of can also influence parental involvement. 2. To improve the extent of parental involvement, the school administration offers more information, promotes the concept, and encourages both teachers and parents. As for teachers, they accept participations from the parents with an open heart, and improve their communication skills. As for parents, they establish proper attitude regarding parental involvement, and improve their communication skills and abilities. III. Impact of Parental Involvement in Jia-Jia Elementary School: 1. On School Administration: Positive impacts include less complaints against teachers from parents, more parental support, and more volunteers. 2. On Teachers: Positive impacts include more teaching resources, better communication channels with parents, deeper understanding of students, and approval. Negative impacts include interference from parents in teaching, negative comments from parents, and the quality of teaching suffers from too many activities. 3. On Parents: Positive impacts include better inter-personal relationship, better relationship with kids, better educational skills, personal improvement, and better communication with teachers. Negative impacts include competitiveness among parents, and arguments due to difference of opinions. 4. On Students: Positive impacts include better learning experience, improvement in behavior and grades, and more loyalty toward the class. IV. Both teachers and parents believe that parental involvement shall take the role of support and assistance for the teachers. Both have positive opinions regarding parental involvement.
