Perimenopausal women face significant changes in the body, the mind, and social functions. Therefore, middle-aged women are the primary group seeking medical help with sleep disturbance. However, there is little information regarding improving sleep quality intervention for perimenopausal women with sleep disturbances. The purposes of this study were to examine the following questions: (1)to examine the distribution of subjective as well as objective quality of sleep on menopausal women in this present study, (2) to compare the effects of improving quality of sleep interventions on perimenopause women with sleep disturbance, (3) to explore the effects of improving quality of sleep interventions on perimenopasual women’s psychological status, and menopausal symptoms influencing sleep quality, finally to predict the explaination of locus control on quality of sleep. An experimental with repeat measure was used. 59 suitable subjects were recruited from a small town in middle of Taiwan. The subjects were divided with block randomization into experimental and control groups, and the improving quality of sleep intervention was provided only in experimental group. IV The duration of this intervention was totally 4 weeks, 2 hours for each week. Post test was collected after one week intervention, and post- post test was collected after four weeks intervention. Chinese version Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Menopausal disturbed syndromes influencing preimenopausal sleep quality index, Actiwatch, Beck Depression Index, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Multidimentional Health Locus of Control were used for data collection. Discriptive statistic, t-test, qui-square test, GEE, propensity score, and hierarchical linear regression were employed to analysis data by using SPSS 15.00. The results of this study indicated the following: In the subjective sleep quality part, both experimental and control groups were identified poor sleeper, additionally after controlling for confounding variables, the intervention did not show effectively on the subjective sleep quality, but there was a significant clinic explaination on the intervention. In the objective sleep quality aspect, the percentage of waking during the night was significantly reduced , and sleep efficiency was somewhat increased, but not for sleep latency, snooze time, and total sleep hours. In the psychological aspect, state of anxiety was significantly decreased, but not for depression. Also, the disturbed syndrome did not show effectively improved. Finally, 28.7% covariance of locus control can be explained on quality of sleep. In, conclusion, findings demonstrated the Improving Quality of Sleep Interventions was effected on reducing state anxiety and waking during the night. The findings of this study can provide information as a useful reference to health providers regarding how to take care and sense perimenopausal women V with sleep disturbance. The suggestion has made such as promoting the similar relaxation interventions to enhance women’s sleep health knowledge for self-care, to improve their quality of sleep as well as better quality of life.
