The investigation included scientific name, life form, and provenance of hedge plants; and also included culturing methods, patterns, and styles of hedges. The functions of hedges in every elementary school were induced by compiling statistics on schools’ area of hedge and every plant species. Suggestion on choosing of plant species, location of planting, management, and conservation were proposed for beautifying and greening campus. There were four results were shown in this investigation. First, there were 21 elementary schools in Taitung City, and eighteen of them planted hedges. The hedge plants were of 17 families, 23 genus, and 27 species. Ixora williamsii Hort was the most common species that was seen in elementary school campus in Taitung City and it took 72% of the whole species that were observed. Then, in sequence, the species were Duranta repens L., Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack, and Aglaia odorata Lour. There were four species of hedge plants in each school in average. The diversity of the hedge plants was low. There were highest kinds of hedge plants in Sin-Sen Elementary School and Fong-Ten Elementary School and each of them had seven kinds of hedge plants. Second, there were 16 kinds of shrubs (59%) and it had the highest varieties of the plants life form. There were 20 provenances and 74% of plants were exotic species. The percentages of native species and naturalized species were 15% and 7% respectively. Third, planting on ground was the most methods for planting hedges. Planting in troughs were also observed. The two methods accompanied with artificial facilities material were found 9 kinds in this study. Stone was the most artificial facilities material. Neat and tidy pruning hedges were the most pruning types. Medium height was the most height of hedges and it had 64% in total. Forth, the widest area of hedge planting in elementary schools was in Fong-Lee elementary school and it had 510.4 m2. The highest ratio of hedge planting area to area of campus was 3.16% and it is in Fong-Yuen elementary school. Duranta repens L. and Ixora williamsii Hort were the two plants that were planted in highest area in the total campus area. Fifth, the major objective of planting hedge in campus was spatial separation. Hedges in schools could be offered as educational resources. It could be more diversified when choosing plants. Native species plants, bird-luring plants, nectar plants, and food plants of butterflies all could be hedge plants. Those plants could induce the activities of natural ecology and create biodiversities in the campus. Yeh, Ching-Long 葉慶龍 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 86 zh-TW |
