Name of Institute: Graduate Institute of Landscape Architecture and Recreation Management, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology Graduate date: June, 2008 Degree Conferred: Master Name of student: Tsai, Wen-Han Adviser:Robert C.Lo The contents of abstract in this thesis: With the society change rapidly, and amid a steady neglect of the Paiwan culture, tourists who call on indigenous to sightsee rather than appreciate the indigenous arts and the local living culture. In light of which, the study aims to explore, taking to Pingtung County San-Di-Men Township’s indigenous area as the study site, and focusing on San-Di-Men’s tourism operating mode as the premise of the study, how best to utilize the Paiwan culture to promote an ecotourism implementing mode, with an objective of utilizing the cultural industry combining the tourism to revive the concept of an indigenous living cultural zone by “emulating the intangible culture through the tangible cultural industry”, through which to create a new business implementing mode for the indigenous reserve, and to achieve the goal of steering tourists to recognize and emulate ecotourism for safeguarding the traditional culture and preserving the rich indigenous cultural heritage. Part one of the study focuses on discerning the local residents’ problems in operating the cultural industry and providing feedback to their anticipations by utilizing the literature analysis method, field investigation method and in-depth interview method, and also studies and analyzes relevant local and foreign case examples integrating the foresaid archival information to provide the principle and a premise in subsequent development; it also analyzes the current state of San-Di-Men township, through which to devise the promotional planning strategy and method for developing its ecotourism. Part two of the study pertains to implementing a simulated implementation on San-Di-Men Township focusing primarily on the indigenous’ handicraft culture, through which to develop and plan ecotourism travel itineraries, together with recommendations presented for developing sustainable itinerary planning and practical recommendations, which would contribute to preserving the indigenous’ traditional culture and heritage, and excelling the tourism development.
