This study was mainly explored on how the believed Xuan Tian God’s being had changed from the natural god into the personality god. It was necessary to make further thorough research on the meaning and essence therein, and the role and social function that Xuan Tian God played and served in the nowadays society. Therefore, Xuan Tian God was the main axis of this research.
Probing into the origins of Taoism, understanding the evelopment of the belief in Xuan Tian God, and making an in-depth analysis about the thoughts and meaning of Xuan Tian God had turned such into the subject elements of art creation. A further exploration on the presentation of the artistic aspect of the belief in Xuan Tian God turned such religious belief into an individual’s art creation idea which had developed a new look of religious art.
Finally, in the form of conceptualism, the idea behind the work, not the work itself, was emphasized. However, the course of creation was as important as a finished work that was merely an intermediary. In addition, this study also regarded the meaning of Xuan Tian God as the creation connotation. The “Xuan Wu Meditation” Series were utilized by the author to inspire the audience to ponder again over Xuan Tian God’s thought, leading the audience from the recognition of the embodiment of Xuan Tian God to abstract deity, and then to conceptual deity. The meaning was transformed into a creational element, combining the contemporary art its form of presentation to present the author’s meditation on the concept of Xuan Tian God.
