Students from third graders to sixth graders in Kaohsiung city were selected as subjects and the questionnaire method was adopted throughout the research. The results of the study were as follows: 1.In terms of motivation factors, elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs were “sport development” oriented. 2.The motivation of elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs varied with students’ time availability and whether they had had other exercises, but not with students’ gender, age, parents’ vocation, parents’ exercise habits, or parents’ educational background. 3.School workload and lack of time were major obstructions for elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs. 4.The obstructions of elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs varied with students’ time availability and whether they had had other exercises, but not with students’ gender, age, parents’ vocation, or parents’ educational background. 5.Lack of time, no favorable sports clubs, and tight budgets were major obstructions for elementary school students who had not participated in after-school sports clubs. 6.The obstructions of elementary school students who had not participated in after-school sports clubs varied students’ age, parents’ educational background, fathers’ vocation and parents’ exercise habits; but not with students’ gender or mothers’ vocation. 7.Elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs had fewer obstructions in participating in after-school sports clubs, while those who had not participated in after-school sports clubs had more obstructions. 8.Overall, the two scales had a low negative correlation. The motivation and obstruction factors of elementary school students who had had participated in after-school sports clubs showed a significant negative correlation.
