The purposes of this study were to explore the current situation, relationship and differences on elementary school students’ parental boundaries and psychosocial development.The method of this study was a questionnaire survey.And the subjects of this study were 953 sixth-grade students of Kaohsiung public elementary schools in the School Year of 2008.
The instruments used including Personal Background Inventory, Children’s Parental Boundaries Scale, and Children’s Psychosocial Development Scale. The data analyzed by mean、standard deviation,t-test,one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product correlation and multiple regression analysis. After analyzing the data, the main findings are as follows:
1.The love-intimacy boundary of father-child and mother-child of elementary school children are above average.
2. There is a significant difference between father-child boundaries and mother-child boundaries.
3.Parental boundaries differ significantly according to children’s different backgrounds.
4.The psychosocial development of elementary school children is above average.
5. Psychosocial development differs significantly according to children’s different backgrounds.
6. There is a significant relationship between children’s parental boundaries and psychosocial development.
7.The children’s parental boundaries may act as a reference in predicting their psychosocial development.
According to the conclusions of the main findings, several suggestions are provided for parents , authorities of education and further research as follows:
1.Parents should practice more positive intimate interaction with children.
2. Parents should harmonize the parental role acting.
3. Parents should manage the marital subsystem quality diligently .
4. The educational authorities should enhance the training of emotional expression and communication skills of filial education on boys.
5. The educational authorities should strengthen the psychosocial development counseling of disadvantaged students on campus.
6.The content of the implementation of parental education should emphasize both behavior molding and manner introspection.
