The trio, one of the composer’s last chamber works, reveals several characteristics of Brahms’ music from his late period, such as employing eighteenth-century counterpoint technique, applying musical forms from the Classical Era, and making use of motivic developments in his late compositions. The study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is the foreword; it explains the motives, goals and scope of this research. Chapter two is a brief introduction of the composer and a background overview of the Trio. Chapter three is an analysis of the work, dwelling on aspects such as formal structure, tonality, rhythm, and musical texture. Based on the analysis and personal interpretation, performance suggestions for the work are also provided. Chapter four is the conclusion, which summarizes all the findings in the previous chapters as well as the writer’s personal view on this Trio. In addition to gaining an in-depth understanding and expression of the Trio, this research also offers insights into the late musical style and compositional methods of Johannes Brahms. 葉明和 學位論文 ; thesis 54 zh-TW
