This study aims to explore the correlation between the work stress and satisfaction for the teachers of the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County, Taiwan, R.O.C. We also bring forward the study results and recommendations to the attention of the continuing education association, the owners of the arts and science cram schools and teachers in Kaohsiung County for their reference. In order to attain the objective of this study, we adopt the method of questionnaire, in which we consider the teachers of the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County as study subjects. By use of the stratified random sampling, we totally issue 600 validated questionnaires and obtain 530 valid samples. Then we make use of the statistics package software of SPSS 12.0 for Window to conduct the analysis of the obtained data. Furthermore, we employ such analytical methods as descriptive statistic analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA analysis, independent sample, t test, Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis, etc. to work on the statistics and analysis. Based on the study results, we summarize our conclusions and suggestions as follows:
1. The overall work stress of the teachers in the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County is a bit higher than the middle degree. Among other things, the stress from the level of “communication and coordination” is the greatest, but that from the level of “professional knowledge” is the least.
2. The overall work satisfaction of the teachers in the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County is much higher than the middle degree. Above all, the satisfaction with the level of “mental satisfaction” is the highest, while that with the level of “promotion and benefits” is the lowest.
3. The entire work stress has significant difference for teachers from different gender, age and years of teaching experience.
4. The significant variation exists in the entire work satisfaction for teachers from different gender, age, years of teaching experience and marital status.
5. The level of the overall work stress and satisfaction for the teachers of the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County
6. Different background variable and work stress account for 18.6% on the united total prediction of the work satisfaction, among which the prediction of the sub-level of the work itself is the highest at 21.4%.
7. The levels of years of teaching experience and communication & coordination address significant prediction against the overall work satisfaction.
In addition, the researchers also propose the relevant advice to the continuing education association, the owners of the arts and science cram schools in Kaohsiung County and other researchers on the basis of the above-mentioned study results.
