| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 地理學系 === 97 === This article attempts to discuss the time-space difference of Chu-Pei’s settlement to present the regional characteristic. In the age of Qing Dynasty, the settlement was a rural village distributed fragmentarily on the Hsin-chu plain. After more than 300 years, under what kind of function or mechanism, making the village settlement transform into the urban nowadays? This article carries on the discussion through arranging and analyzing the literature, comparing different-times maps, investigating field, reorganizing statistical data etc, and it shows that the most greatly settlement change is after the 60s, the industrialization. Fast economic growth and industrial structure transformation led this area development. A series of metropolis plan and land dividing and so on national strength involvements, fiercely change the settlement appearance of this region. Along with time deducing, the status of Chu-Pei city promotes from countryside attached with Hsin-chu to the region inferior center of Hsin-chu plain. The core of settlement center was influenced by the national development strategy of different age; it shifts gradually from west to east. Moreover, the investment of different development factors results in uneven development to each region, which also causing Chu-Pei region the striking contrast between city streets and the village settlement.
