Common Structure Rule, CSR, is developed on the bases of cooperation and incorporates experiences from several classification societies, and has been effective since April 1st, 2006. This thesis discusses the effect on the structural design and cost of bulk carrier with the employment of different materials according to CSR. This thesis uses a model ship based on a newly designed bulk carrier, and specifically discusses the change in cost when employing high tensile steel H32, H36 and mild steel for the structure design of the inner bottom. On research method, this thesis adopts the Mars2000 software developed by Bureau Veritas to calculate the structure scantling. We perform the FEM(Finite Element method) structural analysis by using the BV finite element analysis software VeriStart Hull and FEMAP software developed by SIEMENS.
