Summary: | 碩士 === 國立花蓮教育大學 === 國民教育研究所 === 97 === The study is to investigate how teachers confront and adapt themselves to the natural disasters on campus and search for the meanings of life. The study is inspired by the researcher oneself being gone through the experiences on a flooded campus caused by typhoons and being confused how teachers who are situated in the occasional natural threats deal with the flooding with water coming to second floor again and again. The classroom is the second home to the teachers. When the disasters occur, teachers bear the similar moods to that of the victims and seldom have the chance to talk about. This stimulates the researcher to think about if teachers situated at this circumstance realize more about life significance. The goal of the study is divided into three parts. First, understanding the difficulty and the factors affecting the psychological status when teachers confronting a flooded campus. Second, understanding how teachers adjust their attitudes during the process of the destruction and reconstruction of the school and the factors of their successful reactions. Third, understanding how teachers comprehend and define the meaning of life education after experiencing the disaster.
This study is carried out by narrative of five teachers who have experienced a flooded campus. In the aspect of data analysis, the study is done by “holistic - content analysis,” the researcher reads the narrative manuscript and discovers the main topic. These materials can help researcher to reconstruct the process of the turning points of life stories in five teachers. Besides, the study is done by “categorical – content analysis,” as a topic of personal experience of the disaster. The researcher then compares the conclusion with the literature review.
From the narrative of the above narrations, the researcher has the chance to clarify and reflect on the life significance impacting on the teachers as well as the researcher. The life significance connects the teachers’ past experiences and turns out to be a more positive attitude toward life education. Kuan is always optimistic and active. A-Bu-La is humble and never gives up. Dean Long is whole-heartedly devoted himself. Dee possesses the passion toward education. Yeh loves her own school and country. From the interactions during the interviews, the researcher realizes the teachers show their strong will during the hard time. Despite the difficulty, people get united because of the selfless assistance. The life significance will be glorified because the individual existence is involved in others. My career in education becomes more energetic because of the five interviewed teachers.
At the end of this study, the researcher raises suggestions to teachers confronting a flooded campus for further study in the future.
