Contented in Mindful Observance
–A discourse on painting by Huang, Hsin-Yun
Creation is a process of blending subjectivity with objectivity. There are moments of harmony and times of struggle, and the author has been wondering around both sides for ages. Fortunately, no one is alone on the road to creativity as there is guidance from past artists, advice from contemporary teachers and friends, and not to mention nature. As Chinese painting master Pin-hung Huang said: to learn from contemporaries, ancients, and nature. Therefore, we can stand in this world to discover the vastness of the universe and explore the variety. Just when we are gazing at what we have seen, we can absorb the nutrients in nature to develop a personal vocabulary of art, which is the perfect state of every artist.
The research framework of this ink-wash-focus paper/thesis/dissertation is as follows:
Chapter 1 is an introduction introducing the research motivation and objective. Research motivations include (1) recollections to life under pressure; (2) re-discovering beauty in nature; and (3) affection for land. The beauty of art and nature is perceived from the experience of everyday lives and life; and dependency on land of modern people with difficulty in their daily life is investigated. The aim of this research is to elaborate the internal appeals to echo with nature through creation.
Chapter 2 describes creation theories developed by the author based on Western views on nature and literary theories, and the aesthetic views in Taoism; discusses the views on nature in Western and Oriental cultures and exploration of life and mood of Chinese people and investigates both in terms of the internal thoughts of symbolism.
Chapter 3 explains the creation concepts and realization. In creation concepts, the viewpoint and emotion are elaborated. In creation realization, the selection of contents, exploration of forms, and uses of media and techniques are introduced. Based on the life cycle of nature and land, the association between natural environments and the phenomenon of life is observed in a microcosmic view in the works in an attempt to interpret the changes of times and the process of life. Chapter 4 analyzes two major series of works, the Microscopic Series and Life Association Series, including the contents of subjects, forms, and techniques.
Chapter 5 is the conclusion concluding the above chapters, reflecting the process of creation, and defining the future trend of creation.
Keywords: microcosmic, religion, collective sub-consciousness
