Summary: | 碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 教育心理與諮商學系碩士班 === 97 === This study focused on a practice counseling process proceeded by a novice counselor with lesbian clients. It mainly explored the distress, doubt, and management developed during the interaction between the novice heterosexual counselor and the lesbian clients.
In this study, three self-identified lesbian clients were invited. Besides the essential issues sought by the clients and the counselor’s management, the counseling processes, counseling supervision, and self-reflection were presented.
Based on the counseling practice, the study showed some difficulties encountered by the novice counselor, including: in the professional development, the beginner counselor tended to turn the perception inward, and felt confused, in terms of clients’ homosexual identities, how to deal with the main issues pursued by them. Additionally, the counselor’s sexual orientation might lead to limit the development of the counselor and the clients. For the constraint, receiving supervision could help the novice counselor enhance the self-belief and understand the anxiety. Also, supervision could provide a role model for counseling. In consequence, from the experience, the novice counselor could learn to adopt “The lesbian, gay and bisexual affirmative therapy;” moreover, not only to create a positive environment but also to appreciate and respect the homosexual culture.
