| Summary: | 碩士 === 國防大學 === 戰略研究所 === 97 === "Maritime guerrilla warfare" is a kind of warfare operation via guerrilla warfare thinking, which is a regular force conducted by the Navy and the public people with the political ideal. In the inland waters, coastal or sea area, they adopt informal warfare, including the sea attacks and ambushes, disruption and damage so as to reduce the enemy's combat effectiveness and morale, and then achieve the military mission. The launch of maritime guerrilla warfare not only relies on the people’s support, strong motivation and correct enemy target, but also requires suitable marine environment and navigational ability. However, the maritime operation does not have so significant impact as land-based operation, so it always plays the role of support.
Following the 20-21 century evolution and development of “guerrilla warfare at sea," it showed that "maritime guerrilla warfare" was equipped with the applicability and sustainability even time change. The war technology make progress by leaps and bounds, so both the sea combat weapon and ships are upgraded; coupled with unrestricted warfare and terrorist attacks, the application of guerrilla warfare at sea is diversified and then its more anti-sex and power increase the military value. If it can combine with other military operations, it can be regarded as and effective war strategy under an inferior tactical circumstance. It even can be used as an important strategic thinking of sea battle with the higher political mandate.
Military conflict in the Taiwan Strait is a "big v.s. small" pattern of asymmetric warfare. Coping with the the advantage of military power of Chinese Communists, we need to find out how to set up a strong long-lasting defense forces, which make Chinese military unable to achieve quick-fix military attempt. It is one of key factors to reverse the situation in the Taiwan Strait. Also the operational characteristics of lasting of "maritime guerrilla warfare" will be a great support for the Navy to protract the force, and further to extend the land-based anti-landing operations in depth. If it can be developed on regular basis, it will help upgrade our defense strength.
In this paper, through the ideology and theory of guerrilla warfare and the application of World War, I abstract the specific nature of the "maritime guerrilla warfare”, and then study and analyze the role and strategic value of maritime guerrilla warfare in modern warfare according to the 21st century war technology and war patterns. In addition, the analysis of the feasibility of guerrilla warfare at sea in Taiwan Strait is made to propose the way of setup and application of the "maritime guerrilla warfare". Expectedly, it can provide scholars who are interested in the topic for further research or decision-making reference.
