Baill. (Schisandraceae), is used as antitussive, tonic and sedative agents in traditional Chinese medicine. Several dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans have been isolated from S. chinensis, and exhibited hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-HIV activities. The methanolic extracts of S. chinensis, were treated with n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, and water to give five fractions, respectively. The CH2Cl2-soluble fraction, the most activity fraction of anti-influenza activity (H1N1), was subject to SiO2 and reversed-phase chromatography to yield five new compounds, SC-K14 (9), SC-K20 (14), SC-K21 (16), SC-K23 (19) and SC-K25 (20), together with sixteen known compounds. These known compounds were identified as schisantherin A (1), schisantherin B (2), schisantherin C (3), benzoylgomisin P (4), tigloylgomisin P (5), gomisin P (6), benzoylgomisin U (7) , epigomisin O (8), (+)-gomisin K3 (10), deoxyshizandrin (11), meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid (12), pregomisin (13), (2S,5S)-diveratyl-(3R,4S)- dimethyltetrahydrofuran (15), schisandrone (17), epischisandrone (18) and 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxaldehye (21) by comparison of spectroscopic data of the literature or authentic sample. Among them, compunds 15, 17 and 18 were isolated for the first time from this plant. In the anti-influenza activity test in vitro, SC-T16, SC-T22, SC-T23, SC-T24, SC-T25 and SC-T26 showed a significant inhibition for H1N1 in MDCK cells line.
