A study on Antecedents and Consequences of Chinese Guanxi

碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 企業管理學系 === 97 === Guanxi is a specific Chinese culture which integrates from Chinese history of five thousand years. According to the literature, guanxi positively affects operating of social and business network, therefore, this study was continuously aimed at exploring guanxi. In business and management field, guanxi is used to explain business practice in Chinese society or highlight its importance on business practice in empirical study. In order to propose the conceptual model of guanxi, this study uses uncertainty, opportunism, perceived similarity, supplier competence and conflict handling as antecedents of guanxi. On the other hand, this study figures out relationship quality, interdependence and xinyong as consequences of guanxi. Finally, this study uses relationship performance to verify the impact on business practice. The samples of this study were drawn from the organizations which produce tangible goods, and included 215 valid questionnaires in total, then this study applied structural equation model (SEM) to analyze the data and test hypotheses. According to the analysis of data, this study comes to the following findings: 1. Among the antecedents of guanxi, uncertainty, perceived similarity, supplier competence and conflict handling all have positive impact on guanxi, on the contrary, opportunism negatively affects guanxi. 2. The consequences of guanxi which involve relationship quality, interdependence and xinyong are positively affected by guanxi. In this study, relationship quality is a multi-dimensional construct which contains satisfaction, trust and commitment. 3. Relationship quality, interdependence and xinyong all positively affect relationship performance. Among these three factors, the relationship quality has the largest effect on relationship performance, that is, the better the relationship quality, the higher the relationship performance
