The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between parenting style and self-concept. A self-reported questionnaire was used and a total of 448 valid samples were retrieved from the senior grade students in elementary schools of Nan-tao. The data was analyzed through SPSS software, and interpreted by means of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Cluster Analysis. The findings are as follows.
1. The developing condition of self-concept on the senior grade students in
elementary schools is good.
2. The significant difference is found that the boys’ self-concept of emothion is better
than girls’.
3. The significant difference is found that the 6th grade students’ self-concept of school is better than the 5th grade students’.
4. There is no difference is found in self-concept between different Birth order.
5. The significant differences was found in the self-concept of the senior grade students in elementary school by their parent’ s parenting style.
Finally,according to the results of the research, some suggestions for the applications of education and guidance, the implications of the Class Guidance Program for emotional education, and the suggestions for future research were proposed.
