Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 幼兒教育學系研究所 === 97 === The purpose of the research is related to comprehend the oral interaction between parent and child according to the process of parent-child reading on the feared-theme picture books, “Sami's fear of nights” and “Uncle wolf”. And investigate the experience and impression of parent about carrying out the parent-child reading. All the results can provide for parents as reference of co-reading. The data analysis used in this study was based on case-study of qualitative method, using two fathers, two mothers and their children as targets. Collect the data that we need in this research by the documentary analysis, non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Results of this study were described below:
1. Parents’ spontaneity conversion is influenced by
personal habits and used to begin with the front cover.
They will emphasize the transmitted-meaning of story as
ending way on story. Parents are trend to adopt standard
interaction and change their voices to co-reading with
their child. The mainly content of question is immediate
talk the focus is the content of the picture books, and
parents guided to the cognitive aspect.
(a) Father trend to give cognitive reading to guide and use
non-immediate talk more than mother. Asking a question
continuous and occur the condition of ask himself that
answers by himself. The time of answer is not enough.
He has personal habitual verbiage usually.
(b) Mother focus on the name of picture books and
introduction of role, and usually tell the answer
directly after child have no idea. Mother is concern
with the feeling level of child on co-reading, and
giving them positive reply at the right moment.
2. Parents’ answer is based on ways of totally repeat,
emphasis-repeat and supplementary-repeat to reply to
children. Using the method of advanced-inquired and hint
to release the information step by step to guide child
to think, and link with the children's experience of
life.
(a) Father doesn’t adopt the tactic of offer praise, only
confirm them. They use suspicion and ask questions
again let children think it over whether it is correct
or not. The “ignore” phenomenon appear and doesn’t
solve the confusion of children in good time.
(b) Mothers will offer praise and affirmative to encourage
child, adopt procrastinate react tactics to retain
child’s curiosity and attention on the story.
3. The children’s spontaneity conversation is cause of
illustrations of the picture books. The mainly statement
is the content of picture books, secondly is the inquiry
to the illustrations. Children will express their
notions and identify with character’s emotion, and also
perform movements and sound cooperating with the content
of the story.
(a) Father’s children team show the behavior about
recognizing word and predicting the content’s
development of the story, and children will connect
story with one's experience and then express their
thought, this reveal that children have the ability of
actively construct meaning on picture books.
(b) Mother’s children team show the behavior about
envisaging countermeasure and extend their thought,
this reveal that the children’s abilities of thinking
and solving problem become more mature gradually.
4. “Repeat” and “say I don’t know” are the most
occurred responses of the children during the co-
reading. The children often repeat the words content
that parents have say, and the answers are belong to
simple. They will connect with quiz and experience to
reply the questions.
(a) Father’s children will give corrects, revealing
whether the answers is right or not he will also
propose the opinion himself.
(b) Mother’s children don’t decide the answers sometimes,
and therefore they will adopt the way which asking a
question in reply to mother.
5. The forming reason of children’s fear mood are coming
from the parents’ unwitting behavior, threatening and
know more and more information. Usage of correct
attitude such as persuade and explain and adopt the way
of reading picture books can relax children’s fear
mood.
6. The views of parents on the excellent picture books
emphasize on characters, color, theme, children’s
interest and whether it has description of
introductions. The theme of book attracts people or not
is the main reason to purchase, and second is influenced
by the price. The select-right of purchase books is
defined by the habits between parents and children,
parents will give the authority of choosing picture
books for children gradually.
7. The experiences of parent-child reading are begin in
early stage. The general co-reading types of picture
books are character educating and science. The frequency
of parent-child reading depends on parent’s time, as
always arranged before sleeping and one book used
mainly. If time is enough, the authority of choosing
picture books is almost giving to children. There are
three kinds of parent-child reading methods to proceed:
First, starting the parent-child reading directly,
discussion together after co-reading is second, and last
one is sharing the feeling of today before co-reading.
8. Parents have positive feel about parent-child reading.
Parents think parent-child reading is a happy time that
can promote the emotion between each other. The parent-
child reading will increase children’s vocabulary and
oral-expression. Parents will furnish children’s
exclusive bookcase inside of home. Hoping to learn
positive ideas and concepts from the inside of parent-
child reading, as well as train the reading habit. The
predicaments which parents faced are the problem of
time, resource and explanation. Consequently, Parents
expect to get the assistance of government organization
and community, and wish relevant information can be
transmitted via unit of school.
According to the results of this study, we proposed the suggestions to parent-child reading, authors of picture books, early-childhood education organization and researchers of this field in the future.
