The aim of the study was to determine if factors such as personal background, personal, family, school and social factors influenced their intentions of studying in college of early childhood care and education. A general survey of new graduates of early child care department at vocational high schools in Southern Taiwan was conducted. In this study, 949 questionnaires were sent out, of which 808 were returned, providing a final valid sample number of 726 (a completion rate of 76.5%). The data were analyzed to provide frequency distribution, percentage, average, and standard deviation, t-test independent sample, one-factor analysis of variance, and stepwise multiple regressions provided the major results and discoveries of the study. 1.Overall, 93.9% of new graduates showed an intention for further studies. 2.There were significant differences in the intention for further studies when considering the factors of school’s characteristics, academic scores. Differences were also highlighted between the variants of school’s characteristics, academic scores, and personal factors. Significant differences were obtained regarding the variants of school’s characteristics, academic scores and school factors and the variants of school’s characteristics, academic scores, father’s level of education, family income and family factors. Academic scores were also found to significantly depend upon father’s level of education, mother’s level of education and social factors. 3.Interest, School’s characteristics, academic scores, parents’ expectations, self-expectation, contents of teaching materials , and social phenomena influence on the willing for further study of early childhood care and education. Amount these factors, interest is the major predictive factor regarding the motivation of studying further. In accordance with the results, this research would like to propose following recommendations: 1.Vocational high schools should enhance communication with parents. 2.Assistance should be provided to students, in accordance with their personalities, to consolidate career-counseling work. 3.Counseling provision for students with low academic performance to determine the possibilities for their future careers. 4.Universities and colleges should offer financial assistance to economic minorities. 5.Suggestions for further studies: (1)Students of early childhood care and education majoring at different parts of Taiwan should be regarded as subjects for further research.
