The participants were 585 junior high school students in Taichung City. A set of questionnaires about parents’ expectation, self-concept and goal orientations were completed. After the participants ’grades of mathematic midterm examination in the first semester of 97rd academic year, the data were analyzed by descriptive statistic, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’ product-moment correlation, canonical correlation, and multiple stepwise regression. The results were as follow:
1. Junior high-school students of different gender and grade are not significantly different in parents’ expectation in Taichung City.
2. Junior high-school students of different gender and grade are significantly different in self-concept in Taichung City .
3. Junior high-school students’ of Taichung City had significant differences on goal orientation, and furthermore their approach-mastery goal was the highest one, than approach-performance goal, avoidance-mastery goal and avoidance-performance goal; avoidance-performance goal was the lowest one.
4. Junior high-school students’ partial parents’ expectation and partial goal orientations had significant related in Taichung City .
5. Junior high-school students’ partial self-concept and partial goal orientations had significant related in Taichung City .
6. Junior high-school students’ parents’ expectation and partial self-concept had significant related in Taichung City .
7. Junior high-school students’ parents’ expectation, self-concept and goal orientations can significantly predict students’ mathematic academic achievement.
Based on the results of this study, some suggestions are offered.
