of teaching effectiveness for special education teachers through literature
review, and (2) to combine the results of the studies as well as explore the
factors of the teaching effectiveness for special education teachers by means of
meta-analysis.
By searching dissertation and journal database, there were 29 research
materials could be adopted in this research. Microsoft Excel program was used
as the analysis tool.
The main finding were as follows:
The connotation on teaching effectiveness for special education teachers
included teacher self-efficacy and effective teaching. Related variables were the
demographic characteristics (gender, professional background, years of service,
age, current occupation, educational background, marital status…etc.) , and
school background variables (school scale, school location, stage of different
types of schools, teaching classes…etc.).
Theχ 2 analysis of demographic characteristics and school background
variables indicated that there were homogeneity among study-samples in this
research; both demographic characteristics and school background variables
had low effect size. The results showed that teaching effectiveness was
significant related to demographic characteristics and school background
variables. In estimated numbers of success or failure, both demographic
characteristics and school background variables were larger than the minimum
tolerance. The meaning was the results of meta-analysis had effectiveness.
Abundant results were obtained in this research due to its conscientious
and careful design. It was hard to predict and judge the relation between
variables and teaching effectiveness. The study just could use teaching
effectiveness as test variable, because in different study the meanings of
teaching effectiveness were not the same. According to the finding of this
research, demographic characteristics and school background variables of
special education teachers were related to their teaching effectiveness.
