The purpose of this study was to explore the perception and the needs for parent education and the opinions of parent education implementation of parents of the students in high school for the hearing impaired. 71 parents were drawn from the Tainan school for the hearing impaired as the samples to answer “ The questionnaire on the perception and the needs for parent education of parents of students in high school for hearing impaired” The valid questionnaire were analyzed by using the statistical approaches of frequency distribution, mean percentage, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe method.
The findings are as follows:
1. The current conditions in the perception and the needs for parent education of parents of the students in high school for the hearing impaired.
(1)The parents did not have high degree perception for the content of parent education. However the parents had high degree in the needs for parent education.
(2)Within six aspects of parent education, the parents had lowest degree of perception in carrier plan of children, social resources, and participation in school affairs.
(3)Within six aspects of parent education, the parents had highest degree of need in carrier plan of children, social resources, and knowledge and skills for raising children.
(4)Due to the variables of parent’s background inclusive of academic degree, the methods of communication, join parent community, attend the parent education in past three years, grade of child, sex of child, the perception for parent education of parents vary apparently.
(5)Due to the variables of parent’s background inclusive of relationship, hearing level of parents, how many years the child has studied at school, child boards at school, the needs for parent education of parents vary apparently.
2. The analysis of opinions in parent education implementation executed by school of the parents of the students in high school of the hearing impaired.
(1)Within three forms, parent needed the most is the form of information offering.
(2)The parents expected that the parent education programs should be executed by school one time in a semester and take place at school.
(3)The parent considered that daytime at Saturday and Sunday was the most suitable period to execute parent education, and 1 to 2 hour per activity was the most suitable length of time.
3.According to the questionnaires some suggestions were offered to schools and future study.
