Employing Action Research Approach, the studies xperimented 5E instructions for a half year by designing 3 units of teaching plan for the Plane Geometry course at 8th grade. After 3 teaching experiments, an analysis was made on the difficulties encountered, the solving strategies, and the results achieved. The performance of each case was also analyzed with POLYA problem-solving procedures. The students’performance was assessed with TIMSS 2003 Confidence Questionnaire before and after 5E teaching mode was used. Relevant materials were also collected for further analysis. The results showed that students need to communicate their findings to others under 5E instructions, and this interactive mode improves their communication abilities and stimulate diversified thinking when they are discussing and sharing with others. Furthermore, it makes students learn to respect others’ different opinions. In order to achieve teaching objectives and respond to students’ different thoughts, the teachers’ teaching abilities and knowledge are enhanced while they are guiding probe instructions. Because 5E probe instructions emphasize students’abilities to organize knowledge on their own, students can possess solid fundamental knowledge. It results in different kinds of effects on the problem-solving abilities of students of different levels, and improves the students’ abilities. It also raises the students’ learning confidence through their positive interactions with other students and the enhancement of their problem-solving abilities. The following are some suggestions to the teachers who plan to use 5E teaching mode in the future:The teachers themselves should be willing and able to conduct probing instructions. They also need to promote their professional knowledge incessantly. Before 5E instructions are conducted, the teachers need to know the attributes of their class and design proper teaching plans. Problem-solving abilities and learning confidence can not be built in a short period of time. Therefore, the teachers are encouraged to employ 5E teaching mode more frequently in their class.
