Traditional cars use simple controller with temperature sensors in the air-conditioning system. The frequent operation of compressors results in the variation of temperature in the cars. This research proposes a car air-conditioning controller based on the thermal comfort theory to maintain a comfortable environment. This research uses motor in place of engine to drive compressor. The variable speed motor allows compressor to easily adjust fluctuating demand. The less frequency of switching on/off compressor improves comfortable environment.
This research implements embedded system to air-conditioning controller. The hardware applies Philips LPC2119 with ARM7-TDMI-S core, temperature and humidity sensors, D/A converter, PWM circuits and variable speed motors. The controller uses the least enthalpy estimator (LEE) to automatically determine the operating points in psychometric chart. According to fuzzy control theory, the controller uses indoor temperature and humidity to determine the output of compressors and fan-coil. The experiment results demonstrate the accuracy and performance of the proposed method.
